Fenland celery has joined the ranks of Champagne, Stilton and Cornish pasties in gaining protected food status from the EU.

Grown in peaty soils in East Anglia, the winter celery has a sweet, nutty flavour, and is paler than standard celery.

G’s Fresh, which brought it back into commercial production in 2000 and was the driving force behind application to have it protected through the EU’s protected geographical indication scheme, supplies it to Waitrose and M&S.
